Electrician on Lift

Al Sauerbier

Al Sauerbier's career spans over forty years in the electrical business. He is a recognized leader in field of publishing, estimating, productivity analysis, database and software development.

Al SauerbierAfter a four year stint in the United States Coast Guard where he studied electrical design Al earned a degree in Management Science with an Economics minor from SMU. This, coupled with a Journeyman electrical license and a family history in the electrical business dating back to his Grandfather's 1904 "ticket to perform electrical work," prompted Al to enter into the challenging world of estimating, productivity analysis and computers. There could have been no better entrance into the corporate world for a young man than the innovative Texas Instruments Co. Inc. of Dallas Texas. During his long and rewarding career with Texas Instruments Al won numerous asset effectiveness awards and was appointed US coordinator for estimating and productivity for the Texas Instruments Facilities organization.

At Texas Instruments Al's vision, leadership, and innovative ideas for productivity and computer estimating, resulted in a 30% increase in craft productivity and cost savings in the millions of dollars. More valuable was the knowledge gained by the extensive ten year study of craft productivity, material procurement and why things happen.

As a result of these accomplishments, Al was hired by R.S. Means Co. Inc. in 1984 to write a stand alone electrical cost data publication. This publication became an industry standard and Al continued to maintain this publication on a consulting basis for many years after. As Engineering Production Manager, Editor-in-Chief, and Estimating Consulting Coordinator for R.S. Means Al was responsible for the integrity of content, scheduling, and resource allocation of twelve annual construction cost publications. Al also conducted seminars on "Computers in Construction", "Electrical Estimating", and "Facilities Estimating". From his Texas Instruments background Al introduced R.S. Means to the concept of the "Facilities Cost Data" publication. This publication was released in 1985.

Since that time Al has operated a consulting firm specializing in electrical cost estimating, project management, pre-litigation construction claim preparation and the development of custom software and data files for the electrical industry.

Al has been involved in hard dollar electrical bidding for most of his adult life. In order to survive in such a world he developed and maintains a data base arsenal of over forty thousand material, labor, equipment and assembly cost items.

Now after a twelve year effort Al has released a lifetime of experience and a tried and true data base in book form that will challenge any and all publications of its' kind.
